You'll tell them what innovations to pursue based on how you're trying to win the game. Your science advisors will tell you of new breakthroughs they come up with (indoor plumbing, the Clapper) and how they affect what you can build and do.

While you select an action for each of your groups every time you take a turn, what you're mostly involved in is the movement of your troops, exploring the land and finding things and eventually getting into fights, which are relatively quick affairs that are settled automatically based on things like what type of terrain you're on (hills afford the advantage), how experienced the unit is, and who has more soldiers in the pile.Ī lot of other things happen in the background. Before you encounter your fellow players, you'll meet up with barbarian hordes, who you can easily kill and take whatever treasure they have. Very shortly after a game begins, you'll have founded a city and formed a few loose battalions of soldiers, who can then go out and explore the world. Go head to head with historys greatest leaders as you wage war, conduct diplomacy, discover new technologies and build the most powerful empire the world has ever known.
